black mekon: the phar’i-sees: the brutes: halt bar: glasgow

black mekon brutes phari-sees halt bar glasgow

ah good christ with all this heat (well the scottish version of heat anyway) surely the last thing i need is two hours of proper old rhythm and blues and punked up fucked up garage mayhem, non?

well yr wrong chump.  despite the temperature andvolume duking it out to see which could destroy me first (neither, so take that you bastards!) i fended off the evils with cold beer and vodka and planked my ass at the halt bar bar awaiting the inevitable aural damage from two of glasgows finest and one from christ’s gasoline, birmingham.

resplendent in matching cream linen suit jackets and black green hornet style masks black mekon took to the stage with intent, demonic intent. armed with geetar and harmonica and a shitload of over-driven amplified beyond the red schhkkkinnnng.  combining the uber-distorto blooze of the coachwhips and pussy galore (remember jon spencer when he was the man?) with the no-fi garage stramash of the mummies into one thunderous rawk oblivion.  pummelled my head it did.  testify!

it all passed in an increasingly drunken heat haze.  i’ll quote john 11:35.  jesus wept.  not coz he was sad.  salty tears of joy my friends.  i’ll quote bob 3:7.  and lo he exalted to the heavens, proclaiming that shit was balls nasty.  oof.

the album, free range hassle, is available from cold rice in exchange for some shiny coins.  to quote: 12 true tales of strippers stripclubs and stripping, heartache heartbreak and fucking.  it’s ace.  catch them live if you can. somewhere in brazil it appears…

cold rice / mekonspace

also playing were the brutes and the phar’i-sees.  both of whom i’ve seen a few times now and still haven’t found the time or energy or wherewithall or words to ejaculate some electronic textspunk .  both crank out that fifties sixties seventies gargage punk rockandrollabilly shit i love so much.  click on the links above.  you should, nay must.

as thanks for reading all the way to the end here’s some vaguely appropriate songs:
