rack and ruin records: or freedom, freestuff and freemasons*
this post was inspired by the new free to download plaaydoh cassette, the bucky rage’s no ticket gig and the fact that tom waits has screwed me out of a whole wad of cash. you’d better be worth it waits, or jeebus knows i’ll find you…
what’s not to like about free? the band, the consumer movement, or the forty six channels of shite nobody watches (the twice daily friends repeats foreverandever excepted) for nothing on freeview.
the internet. home of the free. not those p2p bastards or scumbag torrenters that the bpi and isp’s and various other acronyms have got their money lined silk drawers in a twist over. must be great to have the governments ear, ’specially when you want to fuck with peoples basic rights to privacy. ooh stern letters all round. and a goddam lawsuit if yr poking around in my shit you snooping bastards. so yeah land of the brave, home of the legally free.
whether it’s artists putting their entire back catalogue online to download for nary a penny nor cent or whole labels/sites/whatever (such as winning sperm party) devoted to handing out records for nothing like scary men in playparks with a big bag of haribo.
i love yooz all.
the netherlands based netlabel rack and ruin records has more albums, eps and songs than you can shake a big bloody stick at. all for for nowt. came across them thanks to this irish fella. take note bpi, this is pretty much what the internet was supposed to do for music and musicians. they have a radio on the front page allowing you to listen before download. and some samplers. i’m sure yr isp will be able to tell this anyway as they rifle through your datastreams eh?
rack being the more straightforward, ruin the more experimental side. all genres, all locations considered. some of it’s great, some if it needs work, some of it’s not my cup of tea. but, it is in essence a work of staggeringly mad simplicity. i’ve spent a good few hours today tuning in, dropping out, nodding off, waking up, right-clicking, and saving as. so should you.
here’s some tasters from both harvey dent style halves:
enjoy!
*not really.

Thanks very much for the kind words, and I’m glad that you’ve given our roster a serious looking at!
The site has just been tweaked, and now has sample tracks on each artists page – to make it easier to find what you might enjoy!
