plaaydoh: motown / farmies
where were plaaydoh back in the day? when mixtapes ruled the land and bands with songs you could fit into the gap at the end of yr c90 tape were something to be coveted and treasured. you had yr minutemen and yr magnetic fields and yr guided by voices. plaaydoh would have slotted in quite nicely.
firstly, let me say good job on the lower case name. i dig it. for some reason.
secondly, i am suitably and fittingly caffeined out of my box today. i feel like a goddam hummingbird sitting her jittery and twitching. plaaydoh are the soundtrack to this killer buzz.
thirdly, here’s some songs.
ace, i’m sure you’ll agree. the sound of four track tape hiss and amateur enthusiasm. analogue you bastards. analogue!
songs sometimes appearing like they were thrashed out in a special school. all shambolic shuffling bluster and shouty mad fun. like melt banana all artificially coloured and preservatived out of their heads. like bis but less annoying. like the vaselines except not sexobsessed. actually i’d like to take this opportunity to thank the vaselines. sometimes i blame you (fairly or not) for every haircut in glasgow with a cardigan and wry self-deprecating lyric. sometimes you birth something as wonderful as this. may jeebus shine sweet light upon your heart.
i think all their yelping, cheerful, spastic melodic, messy, hissy, scratchy, bewitchingly crumpled recorded output is so far based on sonic youth’s cover of nic fit. i think. too fucking much sometimes.
if i can be serious for a minute. there’s rumbling bass, chiming keyboard and something almost like vocals. the chorus of that song farmies might be about working at farmfoods. perhaps somebody could enlighten me.
anyway go to winning sperm party for the goodies.

[...] refreshingly child-like music with a ton of tape-hiss and analogue. I discovered them via cowsarejustfood, who accurately pointed out that the above song- “farmies”- appears to be about working [...]
